On Saturday golfers played for one of the most sought after trophies of the year- the Liesfield Trophy. Sadly, James and Matthew Liesfield and their mother lost their lives in the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. The boys had that morning played in the monthly medal event at the club and were aspiring and talented young golfers. Each year on the Saturday closest to the 7th February the trophy is played for to honour the Liesfield family and all those who lost their lives in the fires. It is always a pleasure for members to welcome the boys’ Uncle Colin and Aunty Marianne Easton to the event from their home and farm near Ararat. Marianne played in the 4BBB and Colin joined the golfers after play for the presentation of the cup. The 2025 winning pair were Jody Doran and Mim Page with 42 points on a countback from Helen and Alan Howard and Gail Leigh and Paul Martin. The nearest the pins were won by Paul Martin on the 9th, Adam Littlejohn on the 18th and Gail Leigh on the 11th with Gail also winning the Golden Shot.
A number of golfers enjoyed lunch supplied by the staff in the recently opened Pavilion - Grill and Bar -and some were even spotted enjoying dinner in the restaurant later that evening. Members and friends wish Bicky the very best in his new venture and the golf course and surrounds will definitely provide a superb backdrop to this new facility.
March will be a busy month at the club and members are already planning and preparing for the upcoming events. These include the final round of the Murrindindi Masters on Saturday 1st, the Inaugural Community Golf Day on Thursday 20th and the Sandy Wilson Ladies Bowl on Thursday 27th.
Next Saturday all golfers will play stroke for the February monthly medal and the ladies round will include the first round of the Barton Shield.
