The saying goes that ‘only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun’ ( Noel Coward) but is there a suitable quote for Aussie golfers who go out in the freezing cold and play on ice covered fairways and greens? Last Saturday a number of Marysville golfers ventured out in such conditions and had to adapt their game accordingly until the sun melted the frost. The course looked stunning covered in white and even if the golf was tricky players enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
Both the men and ladies played stroke for the July monthly medal. The ladies winner was Sabrina Stow (20) with nett 77 followed by Gail Leigh (10) with nett 83. Peter Lilley (14) won the men’s medal with nett 75 and Richard Clark (14) with nett 76 was the runner up on a countback from Ming Kuan (18). The nearest the pins were won by Sabrina Stow, Peter Lilley and Travers Stow and Gail Leigh won the putting with 27 putts.
During the presentation after play members celebrated Sabrina Stows Birthday. Members, please note that the mixed match play event will not be held this year and each round will be replaced by a stableford game the first of which is next Saturday.
The Dalhousie Men and Ladies Championships will be held at Broadford on August 11th. Any member who wishes to play in this event please book through Try Booking as explained in the e mail sent to all members.
