Golf Report - 2 September 2023

Last Saturday conditions were perfect for golf and a good number of golfers played a stroke round for the September monthly medal and the ladies game included the third round of the Barton Shield. The ladies medal winner was Jody Doran (13) with net 77 and the daily runner up was Gail Leigh (12) with net 78. Gail has already qualified for the Barton Shield final so Jody and Heather Jenkins (20) with net 82 were the qualifiers from this round. The men’s medal winner was Steve Berry (9) with net 69 followed by Ross Ansell (11) with net 74. The nearest the pins were won by Bec Lee. Keith Atwell, Ming Kuan and Sabrina Stow who also won the Golden Shot. Steve Berry won the putting with 26 putts. Next week Brian Worcester and Richie Clark will play the final of the mixed match play whilst all other golfers will play stableford. Members welcomed Heather Jenkins’ Mother Mildred to the competition who is a member of Drouin Golf Club.

Before play the club AGM was held and President Steve Coker chaired the meeting and gave his annual report. He emphasised the importance of the work carried out by the volunteers at the club and thanked them all profusely. Andrew O’Shea was thanked for his contribution to the committee especially for his work on developing the new website. The management committee remains mostly the same with Steve Coker as President, Peter Lilley Vice President, Travers Stow Treasurer, and Miriam Page, Jody Doran, Colin Davies and Ross Ansell general members. Richie Clark agreed to join the committee and the members thanked all those who are willing to work for the club in so many ways.

The course is looking stunning in all its Spring glory and Kellan Fiske and his team of volunteers have done an excellent job maintaining the course throughout the winter.

On Thursday three ladies played a social game at Gardiners Run GC in Lilydale. It was an enjoyable game and the ladies had plenty of practice hitting the ball out of the numerous bunkers. This week four ladies will play in the Dalhousie Open Foursomes at Euroa. The Marysville annual ladies tournament will be held on Thursday 12th October and all ladies in the Dalhousie district and further afield would be very welcome to enter this event. Details have been sent to all Dalhousie clubs.
