Golf Report - 2 December 2023

Another wet Saturday challenged the golfers and a few didn’t complete their round but sought shelter and warmth in the clubhouse. The stoic golfers played 18 holes for the December monthly medal and for the ladies the final of the Barton Shield . Jody Doran (14) with net 72 won the ladies events and Paul Martin (30) with net 76 won the men’s December medal. The runners up were Gail Leigh with net 76 and Steve Berry with net 77. The nearest the pins were won by Gail Leigh, Heather Jenkins and Adam Littlejohn who won the Golden Shot. With 24 putts Steve Berry won the putting competition. The members thanked Alan Howard for substituting for Richy Clark as captain.

On Thursday 5 ladies played in the final Dalhousie club event of the year at Euroa. During 2023 Marysville ladies have travelled to Trentham, Lancefield, Romsey, Avenel, Strathbogie, Seymour, Broadford, Kilmore, Yea, Mansfield, Hidden Valley, Yering, and Alexandra to play in the ladies competitions. This is a great effort considering there are just 8 ladies who are able to play in these mid-week events. At any Dalhousie event the ladies with the 5 best scores are awarded Dalhousie Player of the Year points and the player with the most points at the end of the season is declared the winner. Members on Saturday congratulated Helen Howard on being joint winner of this year’s competition having finished on top of the ladder alongside Broadford member Mary Campbell. Well played Helen and well deserved. Helen will be presented with her trophy at the Australia Day 4BBB event at Seymour. Marysville members are encouraged to attend this event and show their support for Helen.

Next Saturday those who have won a 2023 monthly medal will play off for the Medal of Medallists and the others will play a stroke round. The following week on 16th December Presentation Day will be held with a 2 person Ambrose game, with partners drawn on the day, followed by lunch and the presentation of the 2023 trophies. Members are asked to note that it will be an 8.30 shotgun start and the dress up theme is ‘A Touch of Summertime’. It is essential for catering purposes that members and friends who intend having lunch on this day register with Alan Howard.
