Marysville Golf Report
15th-17th November 2019
It was another busy week for the Marysville golfers with a three day tournament held on their own course and other events played on away courses.
On Tuesday 12h November five ladies had an early start when they travelled to Lancefield to play in the Mt William Cup. The strong winds throughout the day tested the golfers but the locals were obviously familiar with the conditions and they won the major trophy. Congratulations to the Lancefield ladies and we thank them for their hospitality.
Two days later Seymour was the venue for another ladies tournament. Five Marysville players attended and three were successful. Jenny Coleman (19) was the B Grade Scratch winner, Heather Jenkins ((19) won the B Grade Handicap event and Margaret Blair (31) won the C Grade Handicap section. Congratulations to these three ladies. The final Dalhousie ladies event for 2019 will be held at Hidden Valley GC on Thursday.
Helen Howard was unable to play at Seymour as she and husband and Men’s Captain Alan were preparing for the three day men’s tournament. They do not live locally so they stayed in their caravan on site for three nights and coordinated the event from there. On Friday there was an 18 hole stableford game for Veterans. Two Marysville players took out the main prizes with Steve Coker (18) winning with 38 points and Richard Clark (26) runner up just one point behind. The Saturday game was a 4BBB mixed stableford round and players from Alexandra, Broadford, Commonwealth, Eastwood, Gardiners Run, Woodend, Woodlands and Yea were welcomed to the club. The winning pair was Andrew and Julie O’Shea with 42 points followed by Travers and Sabrina Stow with 41 points. On Sunday 46 men played an 18 hole stroke round and enjoyed Marysville’s beautiful course and hospitality. Marysville winners were Yewls Kuan, Brian Worcester and Alan Howard. The main event was won by Euroa member Matt Mills (1) with 74 off the stick and other players from Euroa were also on the winners list. Eildon member Rod Taylor was the runner up in B Grade. An event such as this one takes an enormous amount of planning and preparation. Kellan Fiske the green keeper and his band of volunteers were thanked profusely for presenting the course so beautifully. All the Marysville members who contributed in so many ways were also thanked. Credit must however be given to Alan and Helen Howard for the time and effort they put into the coordination of the tournament.
On Sunday the Sunday ladies Pennant team played Trentham at Seymour. They were defeated 2.5/0.5 by Trentham but at this stage of the competition retain their spot on top of the ladder. Next week they will play Seymour at Broadford.
Next Saturday the first round of the Foodworks Murrindindi Masters will be held at Yea. There will not be a Saturday competition at Marysville on that day.
