Marysville Golf Report
2nd February 2019
The Foodworks Murrindindi Masters was introduced in 2009 to provide golfers from Alexandra, Eildon, Marysville and Yea with some friendly competition and for each club to raise much needed funds. Keen golfer Norm Reddrop and Foodworks have generously sponsored the event and for that all golfers are very grateful.
Last Saturday Marysville hosted the third round of the 2019 event and welcomed 86 golfers to the club. Whilst we have all been desperate for rain it unfortunately came on Saturday during play and the golfers got soaked. Many did not complete the round but a number soldiered on to play all 18 holes. The winner of the Men’s Marysville Mini Master was Peter Phillips (7) from Alexandra with 44 points. Sue Aurish (37) from Yea won the Ladies Mini Masters title with an excellent 48 points. Congratulations to Peter and Sue. Marysville players achieved some good results with Yewls Kuan (14) winning A Grade with 39 points and Peter Lilley (17) runner up in B Grade with 37 points. The Men’s C Grade was won by Steve Krueger (23) with 39 points followed by Brian Worcester just two points behind. The Marysville ladies also had some excellent results and Miriam Page (22) with 31 points was runner up in A Grade. There was a Marysville clean sweep in C Grade with Heather Jenkins (23) winning with 36 points and Helen Howard (23) in second place with 35 points. Yewls Kuan, Peter Lilley and Ray Jones also won a nearest the pin.
During the presentation Marysville President Steve Coker thanked all the visiting golfers for the help and support they gave to the club following the Black Saturday bushfires. He also thanked the many Marysville members who worked hard behind the scenes to host this event. The fourth round of the Murrindindi Masters will be hosted by Eildon on Saturday 16th March. All local golfers are encouraged to support Eildon by playing in this event.
The Thursday nine holers played Par on the front nine holes. The winner was Graham Page with +4 on a countback from Lloyd Flaherty. Brian Worcester won the nearest the pin on the 4th hole.
Next Saturday the ladies will play a stroke round for the first round of the Club Championships and the men will also play a stroke round.
The Great Country Australia v Marysville Challenge is on Saturday 23rd Feb and Marysville members are asked to please register with Alan Howard.
