Marysville Golf Report
12th January 2019
During the Christmas and New Year holiday break the Saturday syllabus was adhered to with many members enjoying their golf whilst perhaps being rather more relaxed than at other times during the year.
The Community Golf and Bowls day held on 29 December was successful with a number of visiting golfers taking advantage of the $5 entrance fee and a sausage sizzle. About 16 community golfers and 12 lawn bowlers used the facilities and were welcomed by about 20 members for a pleasant day on the course and the green. This event will become a permanent fixture on the syllabus.
Each Monthly Medal is played for on the first Saturday of the month and January’s medal was played on the 5 January. The ladies winner was Sabrina Stow (17) with nett 76 and the men’s medal was won by Robert Coleman (24) with nett 67. On that day members welcomed back club Life Member Beverley Bellman who has been unable to play golf for many months due to a badly broken ankle. Beverley travelled in a golf cart and played 18 holes which thrilled her and all the members.
Last Saturday the second round of the Foodworks Murrindindi Masters was hosted by the members of Yea Golf Club. This is the 10th year that the Reddrop family have generously sponsored this event and it is great to have Norm Reddrop travelling from his home on the Bellarine Peninsula to play in each round. The popularity of this event was evident on Saturday when 92 golfers from Alexandra, Eildon, Marysville and Yea played a stableford round. Playing in the searing heat was challenging but after a drink and some food in the clubhouse players recovered to enjoy the trophy presentations. Congratulations to Marion Williamson from Alexandra for winning the Yea ladies Mini Masters title with 40 points and Andrew Paice from Eildon for winning the men’s title with 42 points. Marysville members Heather Jenkins (22) with 37 points won A grade with Sabrina Stow (16) just one point behind as runner up. To keep success in the family Travers Stow (15) with 42 points won the men’s A Grade competition. Our thanks to all the Yea members for hosting this round of the 2018/19 Masters. Marysville members will host the third round on Saturday 9th February and hopefully golfers from the participating clubs will show their support once again for what has become a major fundraising day for each club.
Next Saturday both the men and the ladies will play the 2nd round of the Summer Aggregate
